History

History of the St. Xavier's Congregation “Education is a co-operative venture. The parents, Teachers, The Students, The Community and Society at large, their definite role to bring up a Child.” Being fully aware of this multidimensional phenomenon, St. Xavier's Convent School Kathua,, had its modest beginning.

In the year 1994, with the consent and approval of his Excellency Late Rev. Dr. Hippolytus Kunnunkal, the then Bishop of Jammu-Srinagar Diocese, the Present land was bought on the South edge of the National Highway at Hatli Morh, Kathua. It was the very initiatives of Rev. Fr. Alphonse, to buy this land, for this great institution. The Holy foundation was laid on 13th December, 1995 by Mr. Suresh Kumar , I.A.S., the then D.C. of Kathua.

With the consent of the Bishop, the S.A.B.S. Sisters from Jalandhar reached here on 28th February 1996, to take up the task of teaching. The admission formalities were started by Sr. Rose Mary and Sr. Claris on 2nd March 1996. As a result of this new venture, 138 students were admitted in L.K.G. and U.K.G classes. The necessary building of the school was furnished by 7th of April, 1998 and was inaugurated by His Excellency Late Rev. Dr. Hippolytus Kunnunkal, in the presence of Rev. Fathers, Sisters, and well wishers.

The classes began on 10th April with the newly appointed Principal - Rev. Fr. Maria John and Vice Principal - Sr. Rose Mary and Staff members as Sr. Claris, Sr. Lis Maria and Miss Brij Mohni, who shouldered all the beginning troubles.

As years passed, the School attained tremendous growth and wonderful achievements with the generous support of the management, dedication of the staff and enthusiasm of the students, the support and encouragement of the people of Kathua.
